I just stumbled on Unity3D this weekend when I was researching 3D engines. I couldn't quite tell how well it could be used for pinball table development but then I just found this thread and see someone is working on it.

The questions I have are what's involved with developing a table for this system? Do all us table developers need to buy the $1500 license or the $75 per month subscription fee? Is this going to end up being another one man show program? There are a lot of folks who get enjoyment out of creating the tables so whatever ends up being the table development editor/player of the future needs to be something that makes it easy for multiple people to contribute to the editor development and easy for newcomers to get into table development. Unity3D looked like it was going to be too cost prohibitive to be a viable option.

I feel it is a one man show program were we still do our stuff in FP and the Table get converted by one guy to the Unity format.

If not the case, It would be important someone explain it better because actually this is the only reason why I think this project can be a real hit or a pack of bollocks.

So please can someone can sum up his understanding of the subject?

At the moment, it's a two-man show, lots more details than I can provide on the vpf thread. only the devs can convert the existing FP build to this format but that's because of the license involved I think. IE: using Unity comes with this restriction. It doesn't mean it can't work but for sure it makes things somewhat complicated.

Hopefully the devs can chime in here with more details for those who'd rather not read up the extremely long thread at VPF.
